A Premier Oriental Research Institute


     Named after Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, a great scholar, educationist and a freedom fighter, this premier research institution offers research opportunities to the scholars on various subjects particularly on Oriental and Islamic studies. Started in July 1959, it has helped academics and intellectuals and people in general, equally in their quest for higher learning. It has a library with over 12,600 books in Urdu, Hindi Telugu, Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic and English. It also houses a sizable collection of rare manuscripts. It subscribes to several daily news papers and periodicals. The library is visited by over 18,000 people every year. Seminars and lectures focused on the issues of contemporary significance, history and culture religion and philosophy are held regularly. The institute also awards research fellowships to scholars for their research work. The institute has also edited, compiled, translated and printed, works of eminent writers and scholars. Three volumes of Urdu Encyclopedia have already been published and the rest is in the process of publication. History of Deccan Modern period is being published shortly. The institute intends to offer Xerox facility, Micro filming of rare books and manuscripts and provide soft copies of the research material to scholars.
